Martin Winterkorn Supports Plan For 1 Million Electric Cars in Germany
Not surprisingly, he supports the German government's goal to have 1 million electric cars on the country's roads by 2020. Electric mobility is a touch subject on the Deutsche political scene, but Winterkorn says it's totally achievable if battery-powered cars such as hybrids are taken into account.
Pure EVs and electrified-powered vehicles represented 4,157 sales in Germany last year, a tiny fraction of the 3 million sales registered. However, customers weren't exactly spoiled for choice.
At September's Frankfurt Auto Show, Winterkorn stood in the company of four electric mobility vehicles: the e-Golf, e-Up!, Audi A3 e-tron and Porsche Panamera S eHybrid. But the biggest German automaker's CEO plans to have as many as 40 electric or hybrid models in the future.
