Defending champion Marc Marquez continued his winning streak interrupted by his 4th place in Brno, and managed to get the better of Jorge Lorenzo after a spectacular battle on the Silverstone circuit, in the British Grand Prix. Marquez secured yet another pole position at Silverstone, but Lorenzo’s flawless start allowed him to lead for a good part of the race.
Marquez and Lorenzo have switched positions at the front of the pack a couple of times, but towards the end of the race the young Spaniard made a decisive move and claimed the victory, with a .732 gap. Valentino Rossi was third, followed by Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso for the top 5, but they had fallen back to more than 8 seconds behind the two leading bikes, despite the fact that these 5 bikes were grouped for a good deal of the race.

Still, the rest of the grid was even slower, with Pol Espargaro in a very good 6th position at the end of the race, followed by Stefan Bradl, Andrea Iannone, Aleix Espargaro and again, a very fast Scott Redding. The other two Ducati, Hernandez and Crutchlow were 11th and 12th, respectively, while Karel Abraham and Colin Edwards’ replacement Alex de Angelis have also earned points, the latter clawing his first MotoGP point for NGM Forward.

A cracked rear rim prevented Bradley Smith from fighting for a more prominent place in his home round, but after a pit stop, the brit decided it was at least worthy to try and finish the race in front of his countrymen. He was the last rider to cross the finish line. Only Alvaro Bautista crashed out of the Silverstone race, but he made it without being injured.

MotoGP action returns to San Marino in 2 weeks’ time, at the Marco Simoncelli circuit in Misano. The world standing sees Marc Marquez in the first position, with 288 points and on par with Valentino Rossi as far as 11 wins in a season goes, followed by Dani Pedrosa with 199 points and Rossi with 189. Jorge Lorenzo is still 4th with 157 and has a lot of work to do if he wants a season podium, with Andrea Dovizioso 5th, with 129 points.
