Currently driving for Red Bull Racing in the Formula One championship, Webber signed a contract with Porsche that extends “over several years” and will join the team once the 2013 F1 season is over.
“It’s an honor for me to join Porsche on its return to the top category at Le Mans and in the sports car World Endurance Championship and to be part of the team. Porsche has written racing history as a manufacturer and stands for outstanding technology and performance at the highest level,” said Webber in a statement.
The 36-year-old Aussie driver has been racing with Red Bull since 2007. In previous Formula One years, Webber was involved with Minardi, Jaguar and Williams. So far, he scored 9 wins and 36 podiums in 203 races. The Australian driver has already raced at Le Mans twice, and in 1998 he finished runner-up in the FIA GT Championship.
