There have been a lot of changes at the former Fiat S.p.A. over the last several years, but some of the biggest have yet to come for the sporty Alfa Romeo brand. Reports indicate that Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that an all-new Alfa Romeo (most likely the Alfa Romeo Giulia) will be launched on June 24, 2015 – a date that marks the brand’s 105th birthday.
That means this all-new model will be introduced in less than a year, and it is very likely that we just recently saw the new Giulia, codenamed “Tipo 952,” out testing as the cobbled-together Maserati you see above. With this truncated timeframe and the early development of the prototype, Autoedizione expects that the vehicle revealed on Alfa Romeo’s birthday will be a concept version of the production car with that actual production vehicle likely due out by the end of next year.

In terms of the design, the test mule that was spotted last month gives little indication what Alfa Romeo’s 159-replacing compact sedan will look like, but there have been plenty of rumors as to what will be under the hood. Caught filling up on diesel, this test car all but confirms there will be a diesel engine in the mix, but the Alfa Romeo Giulia is also expected to offer a sporty GTA model powered by Maserati’s twin-turbo V-6 with an output of around 500 hp and paired to a dual-clutch transmission.

More importantly for U.S. buyers, this car will debut a new rear-drive based platform that will also be able to accommodate an all-wheel drive configuration, and in all likelihood, this platform will eventually make its way to other Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brands including Chrysler and Dodge.
