Ostberg has chose to split from 3-year co-driver Ole Kristian Unnerud following a disappointing Sorland Rally in the Norwegian Rally Championship earlier this month. It was during that event that a co-driving error (miscalculation of an early time control check) caused Ostberg to drop two places in the overall classification of the rally, finishing the weekend in 3rd place.
Officially, though, Unnerud confirmed parting ways with his compatriot due to family commitments. Either way, one thing is for sure, and that's 24-year old Engan joining her boyfriend in the Adapta-backed Subaru Impreza during this weekend's Rally Sardegna. In addition to her commitments in the Norwegian Rally Championship, she also co-drove for Eyvind Brynildsen in 4 WRC events in the past.
“I think it is a great opportunity for me. It has been my ambition to do co-driving on this level, I am confident that I can do it, and it is very special to debut in WRC with my boyfriend as driver,” revealed Engan.
However, as argued by team boss Morten Ostberg, her position within the Adapta World Rally Team will on be temporary due to her personal relationship with Mads.
“We are happy to be in this family situation. She has the qualities to be a permanent solution, but due to their relationship we all regard that as not such a good idea. But it is very inspiring for all of us to have her in this role for Sardinia. She allows us to do a careful search for a permanent solution, and secure the possibilities to perform well in this rally, that Mads really likes,” added Ostberg Sr.
