M1nsk M 125, Yes They Still Make It

Believe it or not, the M1nsk M 125 is still in production! The Belarusian manufacturer has taken bold steps in the business and teamed up with Chinese makers, such as Zongshen for creating modern machines, but it looks like the old, classic bikes which have in fact made history for the old former-Soviet brand have not been discontinued.

So here’s the M 125 in its new iteration, with a rather unchanged design but hopefully with present-era reliability and fuel economy. The old versions were not exactly the reliability benchmark, but they were simple and very easy to repair, while the affordable prices helped Minsk push a lot of bikes.

The new M1nsk M 125 shows the same air-cooled single-cylinder 125cc engine, producing a maximum of 10.5 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and mated to a 4-speed gearbox. Equipped with a kick starter, the bike is obviously on the light side, with weight saving also helped by the 2-stroke lump. The 11-liter (2.9 US gal) tank should provide a very good range, as M1nsk advertises a 3.7l/100 km (63.5 mpg) fuel economy.

Careful riding is advisable with the 150mm drum brakes, as the old Soviet bikes were famous for their poor stopping power, hopefully improved now. The 120 kg (265 lbs) bike is said to go as fast as 90 km/h (56 mph), but looking at the painfully dull dash will make you laugh, for sure. The M1nsk M 125 is up for grabs for $1,440 (€1,030), but we guess there are better way to spend a grand. The choice is yours, anyway.
