Lorenzo Tops Mugello Practice
The Doctor was the first rider to dominate the practice session as he set an early 1m50.573s. Casey Stoner couldn't wait too long and joined the testing crew with a 0.001 seconds time behind the Italian. However, in the next laps he managed to beat Rossi by 0.048.
Still, the star of the show was Jorge Lorenzo who set a first time of 1m50.442s at halfway of the testing session, despite Valentino Rossi's improved time of 1m50.065s. Lorenzo continued to run high on the Mugello circuit and beat his team-mate by 0.195s.
As with Casey Stoner, he only arrived third, followed by Honda's Dani Pedrosa and Colin Edwards of Tech 3 Yamaha. Gresini Honda entered top ten once again especially thanks to Alex de Angelis who recorded the sixth best time on the track. However, Toni Elias, who performed pretty well in the first laps of the session, fell on the 12th place.
The top ten was completed by Loris Capirossi (Suzuki), Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Honda) and Marco Melandri (Hayate Kawasaki).
Nicky Hayden scored a disappointing 15th place, ahead of Niccolo Canepa who had a crash just in the first lap.
Aside from this, Rossi still expects a great performance at Mugello, with the Italian promising a good result in the race. The Doctor has won at Mugello for the last seven years.
"Racing at Mugello is something incredible for me, but every year it gets more difficult to keep my record going and seven wins in a row is already a lot," said Rossi. "I do feel pressure going there, but at the same time it is always amazing and the fans give me an extra motivation that helps me to perform in a different way there."
