Listen to the Soothing Voice of James May Telling You to Make a U-Turn

Now that we've seen the disaster that the new Top Gear season turned out to be, all our hopes are clinging on to the quality of The Grand Tour - the new show featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
We don't have that much to wait since its debut is scheduled for November, but we miss those three goofs more than we'd like to admit. And so every online appearance that they make, no matter how bizarre or random, is greeted with a certain dose of excitement.

After so many years of seeing them on TV and reading their pieces in the Top Gear magazine or in various newspapers, we feel like we know their personalities pretty well. We know Clarkson is bad with tools, Hammond has a tough head to crack and May is a sucker for good value cars. And we could write similar strings until forever without once repeating ourselves.

And it's not like we're star-struck - not at all. On the contrary. The thing that makes them so likable is that they're not stars, they're people just like us who happen to have their meetings and talks filmed and broadcast all over the world. And the world just happens to enjoy them.

Not everybody is so crazy about Clarkson, though. One example would be Piers Morgan; the overwhelming majority of the Argentine population, another. And this list too could go on. But even if you don't find Clarkson particularly easy to digest, you can find refuge in either May or Hammond.

My favorite, for example, is James May. He's clearly the geekiest of the bunch, which also means he's the smartest. He has a terrible fashion sense, which also goes to show he has more important things on his mind than worrying about clothes. And he has that combination of voice and accent specific to an English gentleman of yore.

It's this last trait that we get to witness in two very short videos posted by Jeremy Clarkson on Twitter. They show May in a recording booth reading satellite navigation instructions. The comments Jezza made aren't helpful at all in elucidating who May is lending his voice to, but if it's for a particular sat nav or smartphone app, I'm getting it the next day (and it's probably Waze).

I'm actually starting to believe that Jams May might be the British equivalent of Morgan Freeman: a man who could read a cookbook and still make it sound interesting. How many times have you heard "Make a U-turn" without getting angry at whoever was saying that before?
