At first, it might seem like the bugeye Impreza in the image above is a bit of an abomination. Nevertheless, upon closer inspection, we've decided this contraption (barely) fits our jportscar label.
Earlier this year, when we started noticing high-ground clearance sportscars are turning into a thing, we decided to make things simpler for everybody and came up with the jportscar class.
This was supposed to only included jaked-up sportscars, hence its designation, but since this Subaru can deliver the same amount of velocity thrills as a sportscar, we've now welcomed it to the club - judging by what we can see in this potato-quality collage (wrench tip to Boosted Boris for the image), we're probably dealing with a WRX station wagon here.
While the standard ride height of such a car may be enough to make it overcome the natural fear that takes over most fast machines once they run out of tarmac, it seems the owner of this Scooby has a fetish for weird suspension geometry. This is the kind ob obsession that means the hefty offroading tires were on the house.
Returning to the jportscar category itself, this isn't a novelty. And while a part of our readers might not be familiar with vehicles such as the 1992 Mega Track that came from France, most aficionados are well aware of how Porsche turned a 911 into the high-riding 953 for the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally.
As for modern-day examples, we have to admit we've came across more renderings than real cars, but people's desire for go-anywhere sportscars is clearly visible, and we can only approve of such shenanigans.
After all, SUVs were born for a reasons, but those of us who can do without the tons of cabin space they provice shouldn't have to deal with the disconnected driving experience these heavy beasts provide.
