Lexus Takes Second Place In Sales Across the US in March

The battle for the crown of the best selling premium brand in the US is heating up. BMW has held that title for a long time and its rivals can’t wait to make a comeback and rain on the German company’s parade once again.
In March, the numbers simply went haywire. Lexus that used to be number three in terms of sales, rose to the second spot, overtaking Mercedes-Benz, even though the Stuttgart-based posted great numbers once again.

Over the course of the last month, the Japanese luxury manufacturer posted a growth in sale of 8.6 percent to a grand total of 31,054 units. The encouraging result was posted thanks to the Lexus NX crossover and the RC Coupe models that proved to be really popular.

Furthermore, the company set a first-quarter record in the US with 77,180 units sold, a number that places them third overall so far this year.

On the other hand, BMW relied heavily on its 3 and 4 Series range, that accounted for 14,835 cars of the total 34,310 that were sold in the last month. That’s a 47 percent increase compared to the same period of 2014.

Mercedes-Benz came in third in March, accounting for 29,921 units sold, a 9.2 percent increase. Overall, the Swabians are placed second on a year-to-date basis just a couple hundred cars behind their arch-rivals from Munich: 78,492 units for BMW versus 78,256 for Mercedes-Benz.

Audi in the meantime is struggling to keep up with 17,102 cars sold, a hefty 20 percent increase that’s still not enough. This was Audi’s 51st straightly monthly US sales record in case you were wondering...
