Lexus has released a single teaser photo for the mid-life facelift of the IS sedan, described by the press release as a "mid-size" model. It will debut later this week at the 2016 Beijing International Auto Show, promising new features and technology.
The fact that Lexus chose China and not Japan or the US to present the latest version of the IS proves the market is still one of the most important. Thanks to the Spindle Grille and other sharp features, we still see the IS as a new car, even though it's turning three years old this month.

The current IS fascia features two projectors per headlight that have a bubble-like cover. Some people say it looks like an insect, so it's this feature that the facelift targets. According to our teaser image, the new design resembles the geometric shapes we saw on the 2016 RX or the facelift for the GS. The fact that they aren't showing a teaser of the rear tells us this is a minor facelift. But some changes inside the cabin are likely on the agenda.

The Lexus IS is available in several versions for the American and Japanese market, but sales in China rely on the IS 200t that's powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 241 hp, since it's the smallest regarding displacement.

In the past, Lexus officials have said "Made in China" cars don't meet their quality standards, so the IS should remain an import. That means the model being shown in Beijing could also end up in a showroom near you later this year as a 2017MY.

So now, without further ado, we give you the best press release of all time: "After three generations, the Lexus IS has successfully captured the hearts of young customers all over the world. The upcoming new model will bring exciting breakthroughs based on the Lexus signature L-finesse design philosophy. The bold evolution of design with greatly enhanced visual impact will absolutely ignite people’s desire to put their hands on the steering wheel."

Go on, Lexus fans, resist the urge to stroke your steering wheel.... if you can.
