Designed by a pair of passionate skateboarders, put simple Leif is an electric snowboard for the streets. Similar to the 6-wheeled Freeboard, this skateboard has the advantage of being propelled by the power its battery which basically allows you to turn your neighborhood’s pavement into powder, while you keep full control of speed and direction.
You know how we always like to tell you guys about all these crazy ground-braking toys that keep being put on Kickstarter, right? Well, the latest one we stumbled upon might just change the rules of the game. Its creators say it will allow you to snowboard all summer long for less than the cost of just one snowboard trip.

Riding Leif captures the exhilaration, mechanics and feel of snowboarding, by using its innovative wheel arrangements. The board stays on wide trucks in front and back, and just center-side of each truck you get a narrow caster wheel that is set on a rotating plate and powered by a dedicated 2,000-watt brushless electric motor. This third wheel is capable of spinning 360 degrees, sharpening the board’s turning capabilities with omnidirectional driven power. In other words, the same snowboarding body movements produce the same result and ride on pavement.

One of the board’s unique features is its capacity of riding up hill on its own - no chairlift or gondola required. You’ll control the Leif board via a thumb slider on the simple wireless controller. The board can hit speeds up to 20 mph (32.1 km/h) and run for up to 8 miles (12.9 km) on a single charge. The skateboard might not be the lightest electric skateboard, considering it weights 15-lb (6.8-kg), but it still is pretty cool. Also, what helps to keep the weight down is the board’s snowboard-like stopping capability, which eliminates the need for mechanical brakes.

The duo is raising funds on Kickstarter to pursue production of the Leif. The board is available at a $1,299 (EUR 1710) pledge price with free US shipping ($100 shipping fee outside the States). Leif offers a number of lower pledge ranges for those that might want to help out without dropping four figures.
