Back in January, we were treated to a preview for the LEGO Porsche 911 GT3 RS and here we are, talking about the official release of the model.
We're dealing with the halo piece of the current LEGO Technic collection, so be prepared to let your fingers play with no less than 2,704 pieces. The camo of the model previewed at the beginning of the year has made room for Java Orange, the actual Neunelfer's launch color.

Measuring 22 inches (57 cm) in length, 9 inches (25 cm) in width, and being over 6 inches (17 cm) tall, this LEGO contraption is the kind that can easily grab all the attention in the house. There's one correction we need to make though: while we initially thought this would be a 1:10 scale model, the uber-toy actually ended up delivering a 1:8 scale experience.

Nevertheless, the devil is in details. First of all, we have the functional bits - from the functional PDK we mentioned back in January to the flat-six at the back, the mechanical fascination is strong with this one. Due to the limitations of the plastic bricks, we are dealing with the world's only four-speed PDK tranny.

Then there are the eye-catching pieces, such as the radiators in the nose of the car (these take the cake in our view), the front air extractors, or the details on the roof and the engine cover.

The cabin is also a delight. Aside from the various treats such as the racing seats, the glove box conceals a serial number that's aimed at making every owner feel special.

The sweetness of the LEGO-Porsche collaboration fruit has its price, though. The plastic-fantastic GT3 RS will be offered for $299, with the order books set to open on June 1. Oh well, at least the model won't be sold out, as is the case with the actual car.

P.S.: Check out the video below to see LEGO explaining the hefty price of the piece, among other things.

Update: As many fans, one of our readers included, have pointed out, the LEGO Technic 911 GT3 RS is dressed in a less-than-Lava shade of Orange. It seems the Dutch toy maker has stuck to its usual color palette, which is not exactly satisfying, but perhaps a future edition may solve the issue, at least by switching to Black or another hue.
