Land Rover Discovery Sport Confirmed with Seating for Seven Passengers

The Brits from Land Rover are dropping further Discovery Sport hints, with the latest informing that the all-new SUV remains true to the family by featuring a third row of seats as standard. This camo wrap shows clearly that legroom will be pretty good.

Gerry McGovern, the design director and chief creative officer for Land Rover, has declared that "the versatile Discovery Sport will feature 5+2 seating in the U.K., offering spacious load space and configurable seating, while still retaining a more compact footprint than traditional 5-seat SUVs.” The British marque tells that prototypes sporting the new camouflage design left Halewood, where the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be manufactured, to embark on final testing and development across several continents.

So what else do we know about the heavily anticipated baby brother of the Discovery? First of all things, we know that it will replace the dreadful Land Rover Freelander. Compared to the Freelander, the new Landie adopts a far posher appearance both outside and in. Matching the styling cues of the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept, the Sport is likely to get existing diesel and gasoling engines, as well as a nine-speed automatic transmission operated via a circular knob placed right beneath the central stack.

With Land Rover promising that the Discovery Sport will be "the most versatile and capable vehicle" in its segment, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralf Speth added that the “Land Rover Discovery Sport is the next in a line of exciting new products to come from Jaguar Land Rover." While the big Discovery has the Nissan Pathfinder and other ginormous rivals, the new Landie will compete with nameplates such as the Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. According to the SUV manufacturer, the compact Discovery Sport will hit showrooms sometime in 2015 and will be complementing the existing Discovery.
