Back in the beginning of the month, the Internet was flooded with rumors surrounding a possible revival of the Lancia Stratos and even a very blurry photo of the vehicle was released on an Italian website.
Now, some 10 days later, that rumor turned reality, but only partially. The good news is that the Startos has been revived and is as real as these photos show it to be. The bad news is that the Stratos pictured here is not actually a Lancia-sanctioned model, but the desire-turned-reality of a rich entrepreneur.
According to Carscoop, citing several German magazines, the Stratos has been built by Pininfarina to fulfill the desire of Michael Stoschek, the CEO and owner of German automotive supplier Brose KG.
Although the information regarding the car's mechanics and technologies are still absent, rumor is the special Stratos uses a Ferrari F430 Scuderia as inspiration. Meaning it uses the Scuderia's chassis and 4.3l V8 engine.
There is no word yet on whether Lancia will look closely into this exercise and revive the Stratos on its own; also, the price paid by Stoschek for the car has not been disclosed.
This doesn't mean however we'll not have the chance to see more of these beauties on the road. Given certain conditions (read enough people with money who would want one), a limited run of the model may be considered for production.
According to some rumors, the one-off Stratos might make it's presence felt at this year Paris Auto Show. If so, be sure the autoevolution team we will send to the event will not miss this premiere.
