As the two-seater aficionados among you have noticed, Lamborghini has refrained from properly competing on the hypercar market. Sure, Sant'Agata Bolognese keeps delivering polarizing design machines such as the Veneno or the Centenario, but these aren't all-new developments, rather standing for evolutions based on the Aventador platform.
One could say the same thing about the McLaren P1, for instance, but the difference made by the hybrid powertrain of the Woking halo car means such a conclusion is not valid. As for the rest of the market, from the even-more-of-a-hybrid Porsche 918 to the all-bang Pagani Huayra, these vehicles simply play in a different league when compared to the Raging Bull's top offerings.

Well, all that might change, as Lamborghini is reportedly considering developing an all-electric hypercar. According to the Auto Bild educated envisioning exercise you can check out in the video below (German only), the Italians are considering an EV speed demon nicknamed Vitola. Oh, and, by the way, the rendering you see here comes from Polish designer Paul Czyzewski, not being associated with the report.

Odd tentative nameplate aside (Vitola stands for the measurements of a cigar), the idea seems to make full sense. As the report obviously mentions, such a hypercar would see Lambo receiving technical assistance from Porsche.

With Zuffenhausen currently working to bring the Mission E to the market, a move that's set to take place by 2020, the modern standard of the VW Group should mean the German engineers are developing a modular architecture.

So, with proper modifications, the Porsche sedan's tech side could evolve into an even mightier hypercar.

As most other exotic and less exotic (think: Dodge Viper) supercars, Lamborghini's vehicles have seen a boost in the customization area over the past decade or so.

As a result, the Italian company's Ad Personam specialists could work with customers for a high degree of individuality. Add this factor to the EV propulsion and you could end up with a model that would partially stick to Lamborghini's current range-topping recipe: the resulting vehicle would continue to steer clear of entering direct competition with Ferraris or Paganis, while also-also coming in much fewer numbers.

Then again, we probably have some serious waiting to do before we get to see if Lamborghini makes the transition from the Asterion hybrid concept (check it out the image gallery) to an all-electric velocity animal. Still, no forced induction on the table so far...
