Lamborghini might not build the Estoque sedan in the future, but the Italian brand is still considering new options to expand its range.
The latest rumor regarding the automaker with the bulls involves introducing a new entry-level model, which would slot in the range below the Huracan LP 580-2, currently the least expensive car in the offer. Lamborghini has already specified that the SUV priced similarly to the Huracan, which might leave room for something more affordable.
When someone first hears about an affordable Lamborghini, he or she tends to get his or her hopes up. We say you should not sell your car today and start saving up, because Lamborghini will not make a cheap model, but just something that will be considered “affordable” when compared to the rest of the range.
Some rumors announce the possibility of a model that will be cheaper than the most affordable Huracan, but that would still mean a starting price of about 150,000 euros (approx. $160,000).
Due to the recent money-saving strategies implemented in the Volkswagen Group, the “affordable Lambo” would have to share its platform with something else from the corporation.
Since Audi already shares some of the components of the R8 with the brand from Sant’Agata Bolognese, Porsche might be next in line to cough up a technical platform.
In light of other rumors announcing a mid-engined Porsche model named 960, we believe that Lamborghini might also receive that platform. While the Italian version of the car will not get Porsche’s rumored flat-eight engine, the specialists at Automobili Lamborghini sure have something up their sleeves to make a McLaren 570 rival that will be a proper bull-named automobile.
Another possibility involves borrowing a power plant from Audi, in the form of a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. The said unit was rumored to be available on the Lamborghini Huracan, but later on in its production cycle. With that being written, it would not be far-fetched to see the 2.5-liter unit in the most affordable Lamborghini.
