Although the recently introduced Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo revealed the racecar developed for the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, it now seems that Lamborghini could have even higher hopes for its rear-drive racer. Sportscar365 is reporting that Lamborghini chief test driver Giorgio Sanna spilled the beans about a potential Huracán entrant for the Tudor United SportsCar Championship racing series.
The report lists the upcoming rule changes to the series as a key factor in the car’s IMSA racing potential. But even though the Tudor United SportsCar Championship GT Daytona class won’t be aligning with the GT3 rules until the 2016 season, Sanna revealed that some of its customers have shown interested in racing the Huracán GT3 in 2015. This would put the Huracán up against other teams in the GTD class running Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, Audi and Dodge/SRT (if the Viper remains in the series next year).

A Huracán GT3 racecar would be Lamborghini’s first-ever GT3 racer developed all in-house, and teams utilizing this car would receive full support from Lamborghini. While the Super Trofeo car shown above doesn’t necessarily reveal anything about the Huracán GT3 racecar, it does show that Lamborghini is serious about racing its newest supercar.

As far as when we could expect to see the Huracán competing against other GTD racecars, Sanna said, “Daytona is too early because we’re not able to produce the cars in time to be ready,” he said. “Next year, if we’ll see some cars in the TUDOR Championship, it would probably be in the second part of the season, or after the long endurance races. If it will happen, it would also be a good chance for us to start to get experience in this series.

An official announcement about the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 could be just weeks away.
