The 80s were a time marked by extravaganza and perhaps the best car to illustrate this is the Lamborghini Countach. Sure, we’ve gone through quite a lot meanwhile, but not even something like a recession has the power to keep people from enjoying such a retro supercar.
The proof lies in the adjacent video, which shows a driver taking his senior V12 Raging Bull all the way up to 280 km/h (174 mph). The car had taken place in the Grande Giro, a massive event Lamborghini organized to celebrate its 50th anniversary. This saw a convoy of 350 Raging Bulls tour the automaker’s home country and this was one of the 15 Countaches that took part. The driver explained he was returning home and decided to take full advantage of the Autobahn’s no-speed-limit regulations.
Most Countach versions could be taken north of 290 km/h (180 mph) back in the day, so seeing a car of this age being pushed so close to the limit is entertaining. - Notice how the obviously non-aero windscreen wipers are lifted by the draft or how the suspension reacts at such triple-digit speeds.
In fact, stretching a Countach’s legs to such speeds is an experience that no modern road-going supecar can rival in terms of the raw feeling. Sure, an Aventador can easily outperform its ancestor, but you’ll probably have to strip its interior bare in order to get close to the level of adrenaline offered by the Countach.
Come to think of it, this guy used the Lambo in the best possible manners, since keeping the speedometer needle erect was the Countach’s top asset.
