Lamborghini Concept Car Heads to Auction, Could Fetch $3 Million

The Lamborghini Gallardo is the Raging Bull’s best-selling model, with 14,022 examples built from 2003 to 2014. The Huracan is a fine successor, but let’s face it - it lacks that madness one could only get from the Gallardo. What we have here isn’t one of those 14,022 supercars, but a one-of-a-kind machine dubbed Lamborghini Concept S. Oh, and it’s heading to auction, with a $3 million estimate on its head.
As RM Sotheby’s curates the 2015 New York sale offerings, an early entry that could steal the show is this four-wheeled piece of art. We assume that the S in Concepts S stands for bite-the-back-of-your-hand spectacular because a Gallardo Spyder doesn’t hold a candle to this magnificence in automotive design.

Mr. Ian Kelleher, Managing Director of RM Sotheby’s West Coast division, thinks that the gorgeous “Gallardo Concept S is downright wild and an absolutely perfect car to be featured within the 10th floor galleries at Sotheby’s.” But this one-off is more than just the sum of its body panels. Much more than meets the eye.

Introduced way before the Gallardo facelift introduced the 5.2-liter V10 tower-of-power, Concept S chassis 001 was conceived by Luc Donckerwolke. Unveiled in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show as a non-running design study, the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company's engineers started working on the vehicle after tremendous interest was displayed for the Concept S during the Geneva Motor Show.

Thanks to the underpinnings of a Gallardo, the Concept S morphed into a fully operational passenger car. The so-called saute-vent windscreens were also redesigned for homologation purposes, meaning that this baby can also wear license plates. Unfortunately, plans for a limited run didn’t work out as intended.

With 180 km (112 miles) on the clock, a story like that, those mad Italian looks, and a blue-blooded naturally-aspirated 10-cylinder engine mounted in the middle, would you bid on this thing? We sure would, although we’re short on cash today. We're about $3 million short, so here goes nothing.
