Lamborghini Aventador Coming

Today we announced that the new Lamborghini supercar that will hit the market in 2011 will be powered by a brand new 6.5-liter V12 engine, developing 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. The successor to the Murcielago now has a new name to go with the fresh powerplant.

Up until now we have referred to it as the Jota. However, according to Jalopnik, it will be called the "Aventador.", as the Raging Bull has filed a trademark request for this name (U.S. office). The new car is expected to look similar to the Reventon and come with new state of the art technology.

Details about the new Italian supercar have emerged from the car show held in recent days in Sant'Agata Bolognese, away from press cameras. There, Lamborghini’s president Stephen Winkelmann supposedly also revealed the name of the new car to the company’s most loyal customers. The rumored name of Jota was taken from a famous breed of fighting bulls.

The LP700-4 Aventador will incorporate a lot of features from the Reventon supercar. The vehicle will come with a carbon fiber monocoque frame that will allow a mass reduction by about 230 kg/aprox. 500 lbs (compared to the Murcielago), and will increase the torsional rigidity by 70 percent.

The car is expected to be unveiled at next year’s Paris Motor Show, to be held in September. However, those wanting to lay their hands on it are expected to start placing orders as early as next spring.

Lamborghini has made it known that the new car will not cost in excess of EUR300,000 ($410,000) and should come with the Lambo doors that made the company so famous.
