Kubica Confirms Renault Stay

Polish driver Robert Kubica denied rumors that he is considering to leave the Renault F1 organization following the team's sellout to Luxembourg company Genii Capital. His manager confirmed the stay himself, after admitting that both him and his client were trying to buy some time and find out what the new owner's plans for the future are and where exactly they fit into it.

We are going in the right direction. There were no doubts, really, but it was very important we understood who were in the key roles in the team and of course also the budget - it is fundamental you have that for the updates to the car,” Kubica's manager Daniele Morelli was quoted as saying to BBC Sport.

Kubica had signed a one year contract with Renault F1 at the end of 2009, way before the French manufacturer decided to sell the majority of stake in their F1 team. Given the team's new ownership, the Pole was curious to find out what the budget for the new season and who the new managers of the F1 operations will be.

However, Kubica's manager insisted that it was never a matter of asking for more money from the new management. Instead, he was making sure he'll still benefit from a decent and podium-finishing challenger next season.

It is totally untrue that we were asking for more money. It is not in our interests to take advantage. We want the money for the team. Robert wants a performing car. It's useless if the driver gets more money if you have a weak car and lose (performance) bonuses. It's better to score points and make podiums than to earn more money,” argued Morelli.

Renault F1 Team is yet to confirm a teammate for Kubica for the upcoming season, but an announcement is expected to surface in the media until late January. As for the management of the team, new boss will likely be Eric Boullier, while Bob Bell will return to his technical director duties for the 2010 season.
