Korean Grand Prix Reveal Brand - Image

The Korean officials have finally unveiled a basic Brand Identity for the upcoming 2010 Korean Grand Prix. The BI was made public during a press conference last week (in a Seoul restaurant) by Chief Executive Officer of the Korean Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) Yung Cho Chung, as reported by F1-live.com.

According to the aforementioned source, the new brand shows some rather obvious resemblance to the Korean national flag (red & blue yin-yang section in the middle on white background, with 4 black trigrams on each of the 4 corners) and will make for the official logo of the Korean Grand Prix.

The letter “O” from within the KOREAN Grand Prix borrows the yin-yang form, while a red-and-black image of a Formula One car is placed on the right upper side of the aforementioned designation of the event. The 4 trigrams (which symbolize divination) are shown through the shape of the 4 wheels, in black color.

"F1 Korea has achieved a unique machine line, not found in any other F1 hosting Nation’s, as a result of using Taeguk and Four Trigram as a theme, which are symbols native to Korea. The unique machine line will be promoted as a strong image and icon representing F1 Korean Grand Prix in the future," said a Kavo official.

The Korean Grand Prix will be held at the Korean International Circuit starting the 2010 season. The track, due to be finalized later this year, will have an overall length of 5.45 kilometers (3.4 mile) and will host the Korean GP for at least 7 years. The circuit's deal with Bernie Ecclestone has an additional clause, for a 5-year extension (until 2022).

KAVO is a public-private joint company set by the provincial government to ensure all details – track, hosting, financing, managing, brand, etc. – are taken care of in order to secure the hosting of the event from as early as 2010.
