Sebastien Beaupere's BMW R90S is one of the nicest, though a bit intriguing, custom Beemers we've ever come across. It has such a strong personality that we are tempted to believe it won;t even start with anyone else than its maker aboard... and that's the very essence of a custom machine.
This started out as an old R90S, and we really mean it with "old": the R90S has been released in the early '70s, alongside the series 6 Beemers. So we're looking at a machine that's around 40, but looks like it's a brand new beast.
However, the attire of this R90S is different from the original bike, and that's because it sits in an R50 frame. Even "more vintage" and with an unmistakeable old-school rear end with vertical shocks, the R50 chassis served the purpose quite well: it has freed up the rear section of the bike and now we can hardly talk about a "tail". Sebastien's bike has lost its tail and gained immense character in the process.
That's why the old Beemer now rides with a small solo seat "suspended" above the swingarm joint and dwarfed by the massive ball-shaped tank.
The impression of extremely centralized mass is furthermore enhanced by the new fork: the classic telescopic one was replaced with a springer one, slimmer and by all means, more stylish, give the new look of the bike.
We loved the lowered side-mounted headlight, but riding on gravel or unsealed roads might be a hazard for it. And with the huge tires and impeccable, sober paint, this custom R90S is sure to turn a lot of heads and put a big smile on the rider's face. By the way, does it start with other people aboard?
