After Kia has become the first manufacturer to introduce a voice recognition navigation system in Korea, in 2008, the company comes back to slightly revise the technology for some upgrades. The modifications were required due to the fact that the system is unable to recognize everything a person says.

Kia's studies have shown that voice recognition is the most effective Human Machine Interface (HMI) when it comes to minimizing the risks involved with operating navigation systems while driving, Kia-buzz.com reported.

The study was comprised of testing driver's concentration levels while using the nav system. By measuring how much they steered of-lane while doing this, the tests have show that a voice recognition interface leads to a safer driving. Obvious, wouldn't you say?

Kia has decided to tweak the system thanks to the increased demand for voice recognition systems seen on the Korean market. According to the manufacturer, a new range of such products is being developed with the help of IBM, Nuance and other voice recognition systems manufacturers.

"With Kia’s voice recognition navigation system, you only have to say “home” for the system to guide you back home from your current location. Although it is still in its infant stages, researchers are hard at work to come up with amazing new features. Expect to see them in the near future in Kia vehicles," the manufacturer said on the blog.

In Europe such systems are taking off as well. As we told you a few days ago, BMW has already bulked up its own Voice Control system, making it able to understand a complete address entry.
