Specifically, Kia sold 24,052 vehicles, meaning a 9 percent increase over the same month of 2009 and a 2.3 percent increase compared to the previous 23,512 sales record set in 2007. The good sales performances was spearheaded by the new Sorento CUV, launched this January. The nameplate sold 8,207 units, an 11-percent increase over January.
“In addition to being our best-selling vehicle for the second month in a row, the all-new Sorento also is bringing new, more affluent customers into our showrooms and indicates the growing interest in the Kia brand,” B.M. Ahn Kia Motors America said in a statement.
Kia recently opened its new, $1 billion/2.2 million-square-foot automobile manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, marking the very first US-based plant belonging to the Kia-Hyundai Group. The group hopes to build here 300,000 cars annually for the North American and global markets.
“Having recently celebrated the grand opening of Kia’s first U.S.-based manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, Sorento’s strong performance validates the investments Kia has made in the U.S. market as more and more consumers are recognizing our commitment to quality, safety, design, value and technology.” Ahn added.
