The engine will be the same 1043 cc from before, offering the same power and torque figures, but the engineers worked on making it Euro 4 compliant. They have also retuned the ECU for a smoother power delivery.

There’s also an adjustable shift-up light on the rev counter, an Ohlins S46DR1S rear shock absorber with a remote preload adjuster and tuned forks to offer a more responsive handling.

In the stopping department, we now have high-spec stainless steel hose braided Brembo M50 radial-mounted calipers clawing on 310 mm floating discs with ABS as standard.

Visually, the 2017 Z1000 R stays the same with the previous model while adding a new Metallic Graphite Gray color scheme in addition to the Metallic Spark Black. New graphics in yellow and green are on the list too along with a ‘Z’ logo embossed in the seat.

The new streetfighter will be officially unveiled next month at EICMA in Milan, Italy, following to go on sale in January 2017 along with the base model which will be available in Golden Blazed Green or Candy Burnt Orange and Flat Ebony.

For now, the main rival for Kawasaki’s new streetfighter is the Suzuki GSX-S1000, which received similar updates for 2017. Although it looks a bit more tamed than the Kwak, the GSX-S1000’s 999cc inline four-cylinder powerplant is based on the legendary long-stroke GSX-R1000 engine, which makes for ideal street-riding power and torque curve.

Pair that with a balanced KYB suspension and Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System and you get a serious competitor in the naked roadster segment.

Whatever the case, stay tuned for more information from EICMA as soon as the Z1000 R makes its debut.
