Detroit-area-based Katech isn't as known as the likes of Hennessey Performance Engineering or Callaway, yet these guys are promising 650 horsepower. The figure alone isn’t that impressive, but all 650 are squeezed from a naturally aspirated LT1 vee-eight.
It’s curious that the company’s website lists the Katech Track Attack package’s availability for 2015, yet the pricing is still not detailed. Nevertheless, let’s move on and put things into perspective: without a turbocharger or supercharger, these guys ramped up the LT1 small-block V8’s 460 HP to a Z06-rivaling 650 ponies and an unspecified amount of torque.

Some skeptics could go thinking that magic is to thank for these new-found resources, but Harry Potter’s wand ain’t got nothin’ on Katech Performance.

Starting from the C7 Corvette Stingray’s 6.2L small-block eight-cylinder lump, the Track Attack package changes all the essential mechanical bits and bobs in order to achieve the previously mentioned oomph.

Without further beating around the bush, the yet-to-be-priced performance package builds upon Katech’s long involvement in road racing. To extract those 190 horsepower from the Corvette’s V8 mill, Katech employed the following solutions:

  • 427 cu.in. (7-liter) Track Attack LT1 engine
  • Forged 4340 crankshaft, 2618 pistons and H-beam rods
  • Katech camshaft
  • Halltech C7 carbon fiber air intake
  • VVT limiter
  • Katech AFM delete billet valley cover
  • Valve spring locators
  • High lift valve springs
  • High-speed lifters
  • Intake valve seals
  • Exhaust valve seals
  • Titanium valve spring retainers
  • C5-R timing chain
  • LT1 long stroke piston squirters
  • Katech CNC-ported heads

As you can tell from the aforementioned list of enhancements, a lot of elbow grease has to be poured into making the LT1 into the 650 horsepower beast offered by Katech. If the pricing is right and you’re not afraid of voiding your C7 Corvette’s warranty, then this is the Z06 alternative you may have been looking for.
