KARR from New Knight Rider Becomes a Robot

The story goes on for the Knight Rider despite its problems with the audience. The TV series' producers can but try to impress the audience with something new.

This time, Autoblog citing Knight Rider Online reveals the first image of KARR 2008 which appears to be a sort of a big robot. For those who haven't watched the TV series by now, KARR used to be a... car, a prototype vehicle featured as a major antagonist in two episodes of the Knight Rider. Not this time, however.

But this is not the only surprise coming from the producers. The other official news comes from the return of Peter Cullen as the voice of the robot. The man was the voice of KARR in the original series as well as the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers. Looks like the guy has a vocation for robotic voices...

But coming back to Knight Rider, if that sounded interesting enough for you, NBC will air the episode 12 featuring the mysterious robot on January 21st.

If you're too impatient to wait until then, you have your reasons to be happy as the synopsis of episode 12 contains spoilers. Hooray!

Furthermore, for those who would like to know more about this character, the story of KARR is more complex: he was the prototype version of KITT, which was originally designed by Wilton Knight and built by his company Knight Industries.

Nevertheless, KITT has as primary directives to protect human life, while KARR was programmed for self-preservation, making him an unpredictable threat. KARR first appeared in the season one episode "Trust Doesn't Rust" aired on NBC on November 19, 1982 but he was taken out of the TV series in the end. Yet, it gained a certain popularity among the audience, so it was brought back in the season three episode "K.I.T.T. vs. K.A.R.R.", aired on NBC on November 4, 1984.

Well, looks like producers hope KARR's popularity of “once upon a time” will bring back the glory of the dying TV series.
