John Lennon's 1965 Ferrari 330 GT to Be Auctioned

People with a thing for other people's things can start a year with a bang, provided they have the money to attend the Bonhams auction in Grand Palais, Paris, on February 5. And if they do, then perhaps they have the money to buy a very interesting item belonging to John Lennon.

The auctioneer got its hands on the former Beatles' 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Coupe and it is now selling it, hoping to get anywhere in between EUR120,000 - EUR170,000 ($155,000 – $220,000) for it. And judging by what the car means for a true fan, we bet it will fetch the higher sum.

The Ferrari is not cool only by nature, but also because it was Lennon's first ever vehicle, which he bought after passing his driving test in 1965. Unfortunately for those looking for a pure collectible and who are very careful with details, there might be a few problems.

Bonhams says that, after buying the car in 1965, Lennon apparently got bored and, in November the same year, an ad in the Autocar Magazine listed a “Ferrari 330 GT fixed head coupe. 2+2 opalescent silver blue, electric windows, 3,000 miles. Ex-property of John Lennon MBE” as for sale.

After that moment and up until the late 1980s, the track of the car was lost. The current seller of the vehicle purchased it from Modena Engineering and had it restored in the mid 1990s to its original condition.

Even so, the Ferrari might be the right (and expensive) gift to take home to your better half on Valentine's Day.
