The 2016 Camaro SS Funny Car of John Force Racing has been unveiled today as the weapon of choice of NHRA legend John Force. The 16-time NHRA champion is chuffed to bits about his latest machine.
When asked about how he feels about the aero-optimized Funny Car before this weekend’s NHRA Kansas Nationals, the 67-year-old driver replied, “I started my career in a Chevrolet and I couldn’t be more excited to put this new Camaro SS Funny Car on the track. With all the assistance from Chevrolet, it not only looks great, it’s designed to perform better than anything we’ve had before, with a shape that should help us get down the track quicker and with greater stability.”

According to Chevrolet and John Force Racing, a lot of computational analysis and scale-model wind tunnel testing was conducted to ensure that the new car has what it takes to perform on the drag strip. Downforce is the name of the game here, chiefly because an NHRA Funny Car accelerates to 330 miles per hour (531 km/h) in less than four seconds in just 1,000 feet (304.8 meters). Put plainly, it's mind-bogglingly quick.

Among the aero elements that will help the 2016 Camaro SS Funny Car, the party pieces are the front splitter and the dual blow-out panels. “Racing improves the breed and that’s why Chevrolet races,” declared Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports.

The 2016 Camaro SS Funny Car “joins the 2016 COPO Camaro in the Sportsman classes, strengthening Chevrolet’s presence in drag racing, which dates back nearly 60 years.” More specifically, it dates back to 1967, the year Dave Strickler and Bill ‘Grumpy’ Jenkins pushed the Camaro up through the Super Stock and Pro Stock ranks.

John Force Racing has so much confidence in the 2016 Camaro SS Funny Car that Courtney Force and Robert Hight also signed up to drive similar beasts this season. Fingers crossed the new piece of kit will perform well at Topeka. Be sure to tune in on FOX to watch John and the Camaro do their thing.
