Good news! After Chris Evans accepted to take over Top Gear and revitalize it for “early 2016,” Jeremy Clarkson confirmed to the Sunday Times Driving that he’ll front a new show with Richard Hammond and James May. Furthermore, Captain Slow works on his own motoring show, which will be aired on BBC2.
First thing’s first - we’re told that Captain Power's newest project will air after March 2016, which means that the show will air right after Top Gear returns on the telly for Series 23. According to the previously mentioned publication, Jeremy is going to make an announcement about the three amigos’ long-awaited return “within weeks.” There is no information regarding who’s the broadcaster he signed with.
Netflix, ITV, Channel 4, it’s mum’s guess at the time of writing.
And on that bombshell, James May will be fronting a motoring show called Building Cars Live. According to a press release published by the BBC Media Centre, two 90-minute episodes will be aired on BBC 2 this autumn. James May will present the show with Kate Humble of Springwatch, Volcano and Airport Live fame, as well as BBC 2 newcomer Ant Anstead. So what’s the show about? Drifts and a tame racing driver?
Not quite. Building Cars Live will focus on the MINI production plant in Oxford, with James May declaring that he “can’t wait to build a car. Live.” Ambitious project? Yes. Rubbish? There’s a slim chance to that because James May’s projects (Man Lab and Toy Stories come to mind) were entertaining to watch. If anything, we’re sad that only two episodes will be broadcast.
In related news, the BBC published the address and conditions to participate in the Top Gear talent search. You can examine the terms and conditions by referring to the attached release. According to Evans, applicants must be 17 years of older, not 16 as Chris announced yesterday. Don’t forget to trim your gearhead-grade audition clip to 30 seconds, otherwise Chris won’t even be bothered to watch it.
Good luck!
