Apparently, Jeep Wranglers produced in 2010 carry with them a risk of catching fire if they come fitted with an automatic gearbox manufactured before 14th July 2010, according to the Highway Traffic Safety Administration (HTSA).
There is a flaw in the gearbox’s design, and debris can get caught between a plate which protects the transmission and the catalytic converter, and can catch fire. This isn’t merely a theoretical affair, as Chrysler are aware of 14 such incidents regarding fires on the 2010 Wrangler.

The recall affects 68,000 cars sold in the US, 6000 from Canada, 1,500 from Mexico and around 11,000 from the rest of the world. Owners should expect to be contacted by e-mail as the free-of-charge replacement of the faulty gearbox is due to start this month.
