Jeep Develops Nissan Juke Rival

When Nissan's Juke finally arrived on the market, it was obvious that the model will only address to a limited number of people, most of them looking for an unconventional car. The Juke somehow managed to create a new market segment which, in the near future, is very likely to get a new contender, this time wearing a Jeep badge.

A new entry-level crossover model is reportedly in the works and Autocar writes that the future project could use engines and other technical features provided by both Chrysler and Fiat, so 1.6-liter diesels and 1.4-liter MultiAir petrol units are very likely to make it to production.

The car will probably be offered with front-wheel drive, but an all-wheel drive option could also be offered on top-of-the-range configuration or as an option.

“There’s definitely space in the market for a Jeep-brand B-segment SUV,” Jeep’s CEO Mike Manly said in an interview with AutoCar. “We’re already working on a project that will meet that need, and expect to have the car on the road by 2013.”

On a separate front, the Juke has recently received a five-star Euro NCAP rating, as it scored 31 points (87 percent) for adult occupant protection, 40 points (81 percent) for child occupants, 22 points (60 percent) for pedestrian and 5 points (71 percent) for the safety assist section.

The car sells pretty well across Europe, with United Kingdom buyers particularly interested in this model. However, if a Jeep model will hit the market in the near future, expect it in early 2013.
