Japanese Classic Toyota Crown Gets Updated

Remember the Ford Crown Victoria that was used by default as police cruisers, taxis and other government official vehicle? Of course you do, but unfortunately, it has been axed, so we won’t see its classic shape around for too long.

Don’t worry though, because Japan has its own classic Crown and it doesn’t look like it’s going to exit production too soon. In fact, it just got “refreshed” for 2014.

Of course, we’re not referring to the modern Toyota Crown Athlete which can be had in pink. No, we’re talking about the classic Crown, wearing the same design from the 80s, which is still used as taxis, instruction cars and can even be had as a regular family car in Japan.

Updates for the 2014 model year include a revised instrument cluster, VSC & TRC offered as standard as well as new interior trimming. Power comes from a 2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine making 111 hp, all sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.

Offered in four trim levels, the price for the classic Toyota Crown ranges from ¥1,738,800 to ¥2,973,600.
