UPDATE: James May’s Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera is Heading to Auction

On June 26th, Bonhams will offer a 1984 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Coupé at its Chichester auction in Goodwood. As opposed to all the 3.2s in the classifieds, this Nine-Eleven is the property of James May, that lad that says “Oh co##” every time Jeremy Clarkson gets a hammer. Oh, and it’s a pristine condition Porsche 911 3.2 that’s largely original.

James May spent £15,250 on it in 2007, when the former Top Gear presenter was recording a documentary called “Speed, Greed and the M25.” In the adjacent video, May highlights that this Guards Red 911 is “the best car I’ve ever bought.” Care to guess what’s the estimate on it? Up to £34,000 (€47,050/$52,870 at current exchange rates).

You know what that means, don’t you? Albeit James will get more than it spent on the car, the highest bidder will get himself one of the most revered sports cars ever with an ownership history Ferrari 250 models could only dream of. With these being said, look at the photo gallery below.

So the car features an extensive service history, and it was supplied new in the United Kingdom in 1984. Since then, it was driven 55,000 miles (88,513 km), but the most special aspect about this Porsche is that James cleans the dust from the air vents himself with a small brush. Not joking.

According to Captain Slow, his retro 911 was used as a hobby car until four years ago. “It was donated to my dad to use for the past four years, as he never owned a proper sports car. Recently he decided that he was getting on a bit to be seen in a retro stockbroker's car, and my mother hated it..."

"As a piece of social history, since it's Guards Red and has the sports pack, it stands as a monument to everything 1980s Britain was about,”
he concluded for Bonhams.

UPDATE: the car sold for £50,000 ($78,480), which is not that much more over the estimate.
