Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium engine range is getting ready to receive new members, and they will be of the inline-six kind.
Jaguar launched a new engine family, named Ingenium, a few years ago. They are inline-four units, modular in design and are available in both diesel and gasoline versions. All the power plants from the Ingenium family are turbocharged, and they also come with direct injection for more efficiency.

In the wake of future emissions regulations, along with increasing customer expectations and demands, Jaguar Land Rover is preparing a historic return to straight six cylinder engines. These units are going to be a part of the Ingenium family, and sources claim that development is advancing according to expectation.

We already know that the upcoming inline six engines from Jaguar and Land Rover will feature turbocharging and direct injection. Just like their competitors at BMW, the British corporation will employ a modular configuration based on a capacity of 500 cubic centimeters for each cylinder.

Obviously, because a modular configuration is used in the inline-six cylinder engines developed by Jaguar Land Rover, the new units will have a displacement of 3.0 liters.

Just like their smaller brothers, the units will come with diesel and gasoline-fueled versions. When compared to their V6 predecessors, the units will be lighter, have a lower fuel consumption, and provide more horsepower and torque.

Mercedes-Benz, another automaker that has recently decided to come back to inline six cylinder engines, Jaguar has a rich heritage when inline sixes are concerned.

Most likely, Jaguar and Land Rover will employ the new units in almost all of the models in their portfolios. The first unit is expected to be revealed in late 2017, if not early 2018.

According to people close to the matter that prefer to keep their identity to themselves, the 3.0-liter Ingenium engines in the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio will develop from 300 to 500 HP, and multiple variations will be available. The diesel versions will provide between 280 and 400 HP, which is more than enough to compete with BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.
