Jaguar Land Rover Will Launch 40 New Cars, Variants and Technologies

Emerging from a long tumultuous transition period, Jaguar Land Rover is set on just shrugging it off and forcing itself into the fray that is the global automotive market. However, doing this with just facelifted versions of the current models could prove a mistake, so the British carmakers are planning a whole flood of new products, 40 to be more precise, including new cars, derivatives of existing ones and new technologies.

The information comes via a senior company official, who told The Detroit Bureau that the two brands have staggered their assault on the market over the next five years, with the final objective being to lift the British brands out of the low-volume segment and into the bigger luxury car market.

“We’ll be launching 40 new cars, derivatives and (major) technologies from Jaguar/Land Rover in the next five years,” said Adrian Hallmark, who joined Jaguar as its Global Brand Director last October.

The list of new programs breaks down into three big categories:
  • Cars and products that slot above and below the current Jaguar and Land Rover lineup, as well as those that broaden the current line-up’s appeal
  • Products that can expand the appeal of the two brands in markets where they currently don’t have a presence
  • Technologies that expand the capabilities of the two brands  — possibly including new diesels, hybrids and other advanced propulsion systems.
Among the new products is a direct competitor for the BMW 3-Series, which should make a significant departure from from the old X-Type. Instead, we expect to see the modern design elements of the bigger Jags in a smaller package. Wouldn't it be awesome to own a brand-new Jaguar for 3-Series money?
