JLR's newly introduced go-faster division has chosen Prologis Park in Ryton as its home. The Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will create 100 new jobs, specializing in developing high luxury bespoke commissions and the most exclusive high performance Jaguars, Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
What you see above is an artist's impression of the future facility that'll complement current research and development activities. Located near Coventry, the new facility will be Jaguar Land Rover's new global centre of excellence. With operations set to begin towards the end of the year, a team of 150 Jaguar Land Rover specialists will be based at Ryton. A whopping £20 million ($33.38 million or €24.96 million) will be invested in total, including equipment and building a customer commissioning suite.
John Edwards, the managing director of JLR SVO, commented on this announcement: “We are excited by the capability and potential that this new facility will give us. We will be creating truly iconic vehicles that reinforce the global reputation of both Jaguar and Land Rover brands as we expand our product portfolio and fulfil our ambitious plans.” He's right, you know. The recently unveiled Jaguar F-Type Project 7, harking back to the 1950s D-Type Le Mans racer, will be the first model to roll out of the SVO workshop. The most powerful and fastest production Jag to date, the Project 7 will be built in just 250 examples.
Jaguar Land Rover’s SVO arm, created in June 2014, will focus on delivering halo vehicles, bespoke commissions, heritage products and branded goods. Jaguar Land Rover continues to deliver on its growth plans, which will see the company investing in 50 new product actions over the next five years.
This includes the all-new aluminium vehicle architecture in forthcoming models, beginning with the new Jaguar XE sedan to be manufactured from 2015 at the company's Solihull facility. Two other very hot products soon to be put into production are the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which will go on sale in 2015, as well as the fastest SUV round the Nurburgring - the 550 horsepower Range Rover Sport SVR.
