While Jaguar has been know to have certain reliability issues, when it came to fires, its number of documented cases was significantly smaller than that of Ferraris or Lamborghinis, for instance. Alas, an exception occurred last week, as a Jaguar F-Type burned to a crisp on the German Autobahn.
An example of the F-Type was being driven on the Bundesautobahn 31, between Kirchhellen North and West Dorsten, when the driver and his passenger head an explosion noise coming from under the roadster’s generously-sized aluminum hood.

According to DieBlaulichtreporter (Youtube) flames emerged from the engine compartment soon after that. The story gets even darker when you think about the fact that this Jaguar only had 5,000 km (3,100 miles) on its odometer.

The driver, a 26-year old managed to pull over onto the shoulder. Together with his passenger, a 25-year old, he exited the vehicle, which was rapidly engulfed by flames. While the two escaped the unfortunate incident unharmed, the cat wasn’t as lucky.

By the time the firemen arrived, the F-Type had been consumed by the flames - the fire destroyed the engine compartment, as well as the cabin (canvas roof included), with only the rear section appearing to have escaped. This means that, perhaps with the exception of a few components such as the rear axle and the final muffler, the car has been reduced to pile of sadness.
