Volkswagen makes SUVs. Audi makes SUVs. Mercedes makes SUVs and BMW is the daddy of them all. But Jaguar doesn't make one because it would overlap with Land Rover.
But the Jaguar of the future comes roaring into Frankfurt, the C-X17, technically a crossover concept, but looking just as substantial as a Range Rover Sport.
From a design point of view, the concept is a winner in our book. Both elegant and powerful, a nice looking piece of machinery to buy regardless of Land Rover.
Just like the exterior, the interior of this concept shares more than a passing resemblance to the 2014 Range Rover Sport, albeit with a more modern feel.
Jaguar makes no mention of a production version, mainly because that is still about three years away, but they do boast that the C-X17 is underpinned by a brand new all-aluminum platform dubbed iQ[Al].
When that debut day comes, we can expect to see a crossover/SUV that's 4,718mm (185.7 inches) long, 1,649mm (64.9 inches) tall and 1,959mm (77.1 inches) wide, riding on a 2,905mm (114.4 inches) wheelbase.
No mention of engines, but Jaguar did say it wants to forgo V8 and maybe go all-four-banger to drop emissions.
