Is This Audi SQ7 Testing at the Nurburgring?

BMW may have re-invented the performance SUV segment with its tri-turbo X5 M50d, but Audi is getting ready to fight back using the second generation Q7 using a whole new way of burning diesel fuel.
Launching next year, the all-new SUV will come in SQ7 flavor as well, following it some time in 2016. This version will be based around the existing 3.0 BiTDI, which will be enhanced using a third compressor that's electrically driven, like on an F1 car. Despite only being shown on a concept, if's already famous in Audi fan communities which are hotly anticipating its arrival.

This isn't the first S model powered by a diesel engine. On sale since early last year, the smaller SQ5 makes uses of a 313 hp V6 that's diesel-driven in all European models. However, engineering the e-booster for optimal track and road performance is not easy. That's why preliminary work has already started on the SQ7.

We believe this video shot by TouriClips at the Nurburgring, shows the SQ undergoing testing, not the regular Q7. It's going pretty fast for a 2-ton sportscar on stilts and makes a similar sound to the RS5 TDI concept, which you can listen to in the video below that.

Preliminary reports suggest the Q7 will be lighter by up to 800 lbs. New technologies such as the Matrix LED headlight will find their way into the flagship of the range.

We don't have any specs for the SQ7 yet, but the RS5 TDI concept had some pretty exciting numbers. The tri-charged V6 engine pushed 385 PS (283 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, sent out through an 8-speed transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. 0 to 100 km/h lasted only 4 seconds and the 0 to 200 km/h sprint took 16 seconds. Best of all, however, was the fuel consumption: 5.3 L/100km (44.3 mpg US / 53.2 mpg UK). If they can get anywhere near that in a performance SUV, they have a winner on their hands.
