If the Opel Astra OPC is way too laity with its 280 horsepower sent to the front wheels, the German tuning outfit Irmscher has an Astra that may be more to your liking. Built on the 1.4-liter Opel Astra GTC, the Irmscher Turbo i 1400 comes with 170 ponies.
Founded in 1968, German tuner Irmscher is the kind of company that has enough experience to know just how much oomph can be squeezed out of an eurobox without compromising fuel economy, handling or passenger comfort. The Astra OPC is a little too much for many fans of the hot hatchback breed. That's why a semi-skimmed variant of the two-door Astra OPC makes a little bit more sense.
In standard, the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is good for 140 horsepower, but a little bit of fine tuning found another 30 ponies lying in there, hiking the total output to 170 horsepower. But grunt alone isn't enough to get excited for. 20-inch alloy wheels are also on the menu, giving the Irmscher Opel Astra GTC Turbo i 1400 a sporty look. That theme continues with a front lip spoiler, a revised front grille, new side skirts, a little spoiler integrated in the tailgate, a rear diffuser, some pinstripes and four exhaust exits.
In addition to the aforementioned, Irmscher has lowered the ride height by 30 mm, enhancing handling characteristics especially in those tight corners one might find on a B-road in the countryside. The cabin got its fair share of goodies as well. Things worth highlighting include leather-wrapped seats, door panels and center armrest with contrasting white stitching, aluminum door pins and pedals.
