While endlessly searching the “Other Makes” page on eBay, we stumbled upon this little black head-turning Roadster that is up for sale. This 31-year-old car was built by American coachbuilders Excalibur.
The car was built by hand in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and sports a pristine black and chrome exterior. The interior features hand stitched black leather and is in perfect condition, from what we can tell. Other features include four air horns, billet aluminum bumpers, tan convertible top, tan tonneau cover, four wheel disc brakes, and tilt - telescopic leather steering wheel.
Powering the 1979 Excalibur Roadster Series III is a V-8 454 cubic inch (7.4-liter) engine developing around 300 horsepower, that is coupled to an automatic transmission. The car has only 21,500 miles (35,000 km) on the clock, according to the seller, which only amount to 690 miles (1110 km) per year. It has just been re-painted in Black Imron aircraft type paint. The classic car look is complimented by the addition of new Dayton Knock Off spoked wheels covered in fresh Red Line rubber. The all-leather interior includes dash, door panels, seats, and all the other trims.
This is one of only 27 cars built by Excalibur in 1979, of which only a few are Roadsters. The company only managed to built 3166 cars between 1965 and 1989. The car was styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SS by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Stevens subsequently formed the company to manufacture and market the cars. The seller of this particular model is asking $42,000 (€32,000) for it on eBay.
