After dishing out the 899 Panigale, it looks like the news flown from Ducati is far from over. At least this is what Asphalt and Rubber found out from their ubiquitous spies: Borgo Panigale is readying a new Panigale version, but this one is sheer insanity. The 1199 Panigale R Superleggera is expected to surface prior to the 2013 EICMA.
The new Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera will take off wher the base R-model (are we even allowed to say "base" and "R"?) and will be, as its name already states, a super-lightweight machine. With extensive use of magnesium, titanium and carbon fiber, the Superleggera is said to shave some 40 lbs (18 kg) off the already light Panigale.

But things, again, are far from over, A&R reports. The engine will also be re-tuned for a power and torque hike which should bring it into the 220 HP zone.

Öhlins dampers and Brembo brakes are standard equipment, but the Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera will also bring a next-gen electronic system derived from the WSBK program. Basically, we're looking at wheelie control and similar technology, aiming to fight back Aprilia's APRC system.

The Ducati 1199 Panigale R Superleggera is rumored to be manufactured in a 500-unit run, with an invitation-only clientele of select buyers. In perfect harmony with the performance hike, the price is also soaring to a rumored $65,000 (€47,950) a pop.

We'll be watching for it...
