India-Built Harley-Davidson Street 500 and 750 Come with a Funny Accessory

There are a lot of people wondering where will Harley build their two newest bikes, the Street 500 and Street 750. The answer is simple, and in a way, predictable: models for the US and Canadian markets will be built in the US, while the rest of them will be built in India.

According to Cycle World, the Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations plant in Kansas City, Missouri will build the Street 500 and 750 bikes which will be sold in North America, the new Revolution X liquid-cooled engines included.

The other markets (for now India, Italy, Spain and Portugal) will receive Harley-Davidson machinery assembled in MoCo's plant at Bawal, India. The Bawal facility was reportedly expanded and adapted to deliver Street 500 and Street 750 bikes in sufficient quantities. These bikes will be manufactured with parts sourced from Harley factories from around the world.

Harley claims that the bikes manufactured in the US will be identical to those made in India, down to the smallest details, the same source reports.

However, the bikes which will be sold in India (and similar future markets) will have an extra "saree guard".

Funny or not as you might see this, the guard is attached to the upcoming Harley Street 500 and Street 750 because in India, many passengers are used to riding sidesaddle and having ladies' saree caught up in the rear wheel is not exactly the best thing to go with a new Harley.
