If you fancy current sport coupe-ish sedans, you should be glad that the Jaguar Mark 2 existed, because it is one of the cars that shaped the industry and helped with the idea of a fast four-door saloon back in 1959.
It was able to reach 125 mph (201 km/h) back in the day, using a 220 bhp 3.8-liter inline-six engine, and it could go from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds thanks to its aerodynamic body and relatively low weight - 3,174 lb (1,440 kg).

A really nice car to have even by today standards. Still, if you’re Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director, you can take it and put it up to speed with some current technology to better enjoy it as a daily driver.

Ian, just unveiled such a project today, pulling the wraps off of a restored Jaguar Mk2 he always wanted. It seems to be just a restored car, but look closely and you’ll find it comes with some modern twists.

The cars sits 30 mm lower on an adjustable new suspension and rides on 17-inch rim wire wheels, which are not that modern, but they impress with the size. It also comes with side fins to help with the cooling in the engine bay and a fully redone interior, with modern seats, infotainment and audio system.

Speaking about the engine bay, open the long hood and you’ll be surprised to find an upgraded 4.3-liter XK engine with twin SU carburetors which gets mated to a five-speed gearbox.

The heavy chromed bumpers have been ditched and power steering along with upgraded brakes and air conditioning have been fitted in to achieve a modern feeling.

Although Ian refused to comment on the car’s price, it took him and Bridgnorth-based specialist Classic Motor Cars 18 months to complete the project, meaning this isn’t your average “pimp my ride” job.
