With us since 2011, the Hyundai i40 is a model that set new ground for the South Korean car brand. Although unavailable in the U.S. of A., the i40 shares its platform with the Sonata and comes in either four-door saloon or estate guise. Sales are still strong, but a mid-cycle facelift is due after 3 years in production.
Taking into account the surroundings and plethora of Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the background, it seems like the facelifted i40s in the gallery below were spotted in the parking of Hyundai's Technical Centre in Germany. Registration plates also hint that the location is Germany. The most important visual difference between the outgoing model and the updated i40 is, of course, the front fascia area.
The headlights now integrate a smoother design and a strip of LED daytime running lights, while the sleek radiator grille is similarly styled to the one adorning the Genesis. Naturally, the front bumper received a little bit of nip and tuck too. The rear of the revised i40 incorporates LED taillights and a slimmer bumper. A facelifted Hyundai i40 estate is also around, boasting with the same visual add-ons.
Though the spy photographers couldn't snap a shot of the interior, we presume Hyundai worked its magic with the ergonomics, material and fit & finish as well. A handful of improved or new tech features are also expected. In pre-facelift guise, the i40 can be had with a choice of three petrol mills (1.6 GDi, 2.0 MPi and 2.0 GDi) and a 1.7-liter CRD turbo diesel with 115 or 136 ponies. With the facelift, the i40 might get reworked engines, that slight bit more green, fuel efficient and torquey than the current range.
