The British arm of the Hyundai Motor Group recently launched the 2016 Hyundai i20 Active. For the 2016 model year refresh, the rugged brother of the i20 supermini drops the 1.4-liter gasoline motor.
A 1.0 T-GDi three-cylinder turbocharged engine replaces the naturally aspirated 1.4-liter four-cylinder. What the i20 Active lost in displacement is counterbalanced by the power of the T-GDi. It may be one cylinder and 400 cc down on the older engine, but its 100 PS makes it on par with the 1.4-liter naturally aspirated motor.
Compared to the 2015 Hyundai i20 Active, the 2016 model is £400 more as far as on-the-road pricing is concerned. Starting at £15,225 OTR, the i20 Active comes with all the goodies you could ever dream of in this segment: LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, and DAB radio are all standard.
If crossover-ish superminis aren’t your cup of tea, you may be more interested in the regular version of the Hyundai i20. Pricing remains unchanged from the 2015 model year, meaning that the i20 starts at £10,995 OTR for the S trim level with the 1.2-liter 75 PS engine. The 1.0 T-GDi force-fed three-banger with 100 PS is available in the i20 SE trim level (£14,025 OTR) and above.
For those who are willing to spend a little more on their i20 by going for the Premium Nav or Premium SE Nav trim levels, Hyundai will throw in TomTom Live traffic services for good measure. Of course, all models in the i20 range, including the three-door coupe, come with the manufacturer’s 5-year unlimited warranty for added peace of mind.
“With the addition of the i20 Active, our customers can now also have a stylish, well-equipped and rugged i20 at a very affordable price, and we’re confident it’ll be another successful addition to the Hyundai line-up,” declared Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK.
