Since their Big Bang line recently turned 10 years old, Swiss luxury watch maker has been quite busy designing a long series of new models that simply made our jaw drop repeatedly the last days. From designing a special kind of gold alloy to creating a patented new metal, they have done almost everything to stand out. Yet, there was one collection we almost missed, one that not only is ultimate luxury but that literally costs one million dollars.
Again, the Swiss high-end timepiece manufacturer is close to being obsessed with always finding newer ways to amaze. First they came up with a special Gold alloy they called “Magic Gold” which Hublot claims it’s a patented scratch-resistant 1,000 Vickers type of gold. The specially created material was used to construct the Big Bang Unico Full Magic Gold.

Since they were going all alchemists, Hublot decided to proceed with their little metallurgical adventures. So a new metal was also designed specially for a new timepiece. They named it Texalium and it’s an ultra-light, durable carbon fiber-coated aluminum exclusive to the company. This one was used to construct the Big Bang Unico.

One million dollars a piece

All these considered, we thought there’s nothing bigger, stronger and more luxurious that they could think of. Yet, we stumbled upon a million-dollar collection.

And when we say one million, we mean it. A first for Hublot, the collection includes 10 watches, each priced at $1 million. Yep, a luxury timepiece that costs almost hypercar money. The Swiss claim that in order to create these watches, three of the most complex setting techniques have been used: invisible setting, Clou de Paris setting and rail setting.

We’re talking about drop-dead expensive amenities that include: 653 black baguette diamonds totaling 41.84 cts (full black diamond version), 653 baguette diamonds totaling 40.41 cts (blue sapphire version) or 653 baguette diamonds and baguette rubies totaling 40.93 cts (ruby version).

Like that wasn’t already enough, the bezel is set with invisible inverted trapeziums, while on each piece, the color of the flange on the bezel recalls the color of the indices and the strap push-pieces.

It’s supreme craftsmanship. Think of it this way, to create one piece, 400 hours of Research & Development and production are needed, plus another 350 hours of setting.
